A Rainy Day Leads to a Hidden Gem

2022-09-26

Question of The Day

Do you like to eat a lot?

- Chef Antonio, asking 6 American tourists a very serious question

Rain continued on into Monday here but we ended up making the most of it. The day began with our usually coffee and assortment of toast and cookies. My parents and Kendra ventured out first, exploring downhill from our main road. Unfortunately the rain decided it was time to start a downpour. They sought out refuge at the only place that would take them in, a hotel bar down the hill. After completing my duties for the day (blogging) and getting ready, the rest of us steeled ourselves and set out into the tempest (some lighter rain than before). We arrived and joined the group for a delicious Falanghina, which has since become one of our favorite white wines to order on the trip. With our spirits lifted (buzzed), we continued downhill to find some lunch.

We arrived at the unassuming Posides Cafe. The cafe seats maybe 15 at max capacity. Our group of 6 arrived and the staff could not have been more accomodating arranging our seats for us to sit together. We kept things going, ordering another bottle of Falanghina. We were getting close to the end of the day for the cafe so the chef came over to discuss what food we would like. He suggested that he choose for us and we all agreed this seemed like the correct choice.

The meal that followed will be hard to beat. We started with the following salads:

  • Melon and proscuitto
  • Caprese (tomatoes, bufalo mozzarella, and basil)
  • Panzanella
  • Beets, arugala, and goat cheese

Immediately following that we had:

  • Rigatoni w/ ragu
  • Eggplant Parmiggiana
  • Meatballs
  • Lasagna

Immediately following that we had:

  • Our standard Delizia al Limone
  • Some other dessert that I'm leaving out because I'm getting complaints my posts are too comprehensive

Delizia al Limone

I don't think it is an understatment from anyone in our group that this likely was the best lunch, if not one of the best meals, we've ever had. On top of the amazing food, it was a joy to be around Antonio and his family as they ran the restaurant.

We returned home drench but completely full from the amazing lunch. The sun eventually came out for a sunset. Somehow we all had room for dinner later.
